New Orleans Eats

Eating our way through New Orleans:

I went to NOLA about two weeks ago and the food did not disappoint. Be sure to check out all of these places if you ever find yourself in the Bayou.

***WARNING pictures may cause increased hunger and an intense desire to fly to New Orleans.

First stop was Black Owned and Operated Pra-Lees where I had an AMAZING shrimp po boy.

The food was freshly prepared, well seasoned and the bread, OMG! The owner even gave us a free drink when we told him we came all the way from Michigan to try his cooking. Be sure to check them out if you’re ever in town.

We swung by the Acme Oyster House because we heard the charbroiled oysters were to die for. (They surely did not disappoint). Oysters with herb butter sauce and cheese

We wanted to try hurricanes so of course, we stopped by the best place to get them in the French Quarter. Pat O’Briens

If we travel to a place that’s known for its cuisine we try to take a cooking class and the New Orleans School of Cooking did not disappoint. We learned to make gumbo, jambalaya, bread pudding (with a whiskey sauce that was so good I will be making it at home soon) and pecan pralines.

Chef Brandon was amazing, the food was great and the history lessons/family stories in between made the class even better than we could have anticipated.

Our Last day in NOLA we found ourselves craving some gumbo again. So we stopped by the Gumbo Shop.

I had traditional gumbo with a dash of hot sauce and a garden salad that had an amazing pecan vinegarette dressing. My boyfriend had gumbo and the shrimp creole with a side of bread that was crunchy on the outside but super soft and warm on the inside. Perfect addition to a cup of gumbo.

Our very last meal before we headed back to the airport was off the beaten path (for tourist at least located in Treme under the freeway), Black owned and had great wings. Be sure to stop by Wing Snack if you’re ever in the mood for some great chicken.

Honorable Mention. Cafe Du Monde because we stopped by to meet up with friends but sadly, didn’t get beignets (just wasnt hungry at this point).
